Wet Felting with a Resist
Join us for a creative practice using wool fibers and resists at the Carriage House in Thomaston, Maine!
In this 3-hour workshop you will learn the ancient art of wet felting, the process of loose wool becoming a fabric (felt). This textile art technique has been used for millenniums in the making of rugs, clothing, and homes (yurts).
Maker, Susie Cooke will demonstrate the technique for creating a felted pouch, taking you step-by-step through the project and providing guidance along the way so you may enjoy the creative process and let your inner artist lead the way.
In this wet felting workshop you will learn to make your own one-of-a-kind felted pouch with a flap using a resist (you will have a wide selection of beautifully dyed merino wool to choose from along with embellishment materials).
In addition to the merino wool we will be using, all of the supplies such as rolling mats, resists, hot water and soap will be supplied for the felting process and are part of the workshop fee. It is not a messy craft, just a wet one! Please bring a bath towel with you and a bag to bring your project home in.
At the end of this workshop students will have created a one-of-a-kind felted pouch and will take with them the valuable knowledge of working with a resist. This technique is essential when making more complex items such as mittens, hats, pods, etc.
Registration is being supported by the Carriage House and you can register through their website: https://uprootpieco.square.site/events-workshops Please reach out to me with any questions you may have.
