Designing Women Portland Holiday Show

The market in Portland is Desinging Women’s longest running and the original one started by Karen Perry in 1991. Our markets have always relied on all of us helping to make it a success with exhibitors helping to decorate, distribute flyers, anything we can imagine. Since then, we have outgrown several locations.

Again this year, we are pleased to support the Ocean Avenue PTO with a suggested $3. donation at the door. They help parents get involved in their children's education and supports a wide range of activities including field trips and commuunity events.

Designing Women “Art to Wear & More”

Our Freeport Artisan market has a new focus... Art To Wear and More! It has always been great market for our fiber members and those who design jewelry so we decided to focus on it. You'll still find our other members who make glass, pottery, wood items and more (that's the More!).

This year the suggested donation of $2. at the door will go to our organization. We are nonprofit and use all of our funds to organize and promote our shows to benefit a community nonprofit that works with women, children, and families. We hope to continue our partnerships with the commitment which is our mission.

Wet Felting with a Resist

Wet Felting with a Resist

Join us for a creative practice using wool fibers and resists at the Carriage House in Thomaston, Maine!

In this 3-hour workshop you will learn the ancient art of wet felting, the process of loose wool becoming a fabric (felt). This textile art technique has been used for millenniums in the making of rugs, clothing, and homes (yurts).

Maker, Susie Cooke will demonstrate the technique for creating a felted pouch, taking you step-by-step through the project and providing guidance along the way so you may enjoy the creative process and let your inner artist lead the way.

In this wet felting workshop you will learn to make your own one-of-a-kind felted pouch with a flap using a resist (you will have a wide selection of beautifully dyed merino wool to choose from along with embellishment materials).

In addition to the merino wool we will be using, all of the supplies such as rolling mats, resists, hot water and soap will be supplied for the felting process and are part of the workshop fee. It is not a messy craft, just a wet one! Please bring a bath towel with you and a bag to bring your project home in.

At the end of this workshop students will have created a one-of-a-kind felted pouch and will take with them the valuable knowledge of working with a resist. This technique is essential when making more complex items such as mittens, hats, pods, etc.

Registration is being supported by the Carriage House and you can register through their website: https://uprootpieco.square.site/events-workshops Please reach out to me with any questions you may have.

$85/person

No prior experience necessary. Ages 16+ welcome!

All materials included.
